Biography

Flag of Cumberland (adopted 2012)
George Graham Bt was born in Cumberland, England.

George was probably (See Research Note below) born in 1624 at his father's estate in Netherby, Cumberland, England. His Father was Richard Graham who in 1629 became Sir Richard Graham, first Baronet of Esk, and his mother was Catherine (Musgrave) Graham.

He was married in about 1647 to Mary Johnstone. [1]. Their Children, all sons were:

He succeeded to the baronetcy on the death of his father in 1654. [3]

He died in 1657/8 in Netherby, Cumberland, England. [1] His will [4] was signed on March 19 of that year, and its tone suggests he died that day or soon after. A partial transcription of the will is at Space:George Graham Will Transcription. The Will was proved on March 6 1658/9.

Research Note

No primary source for his birth can be found, but most secondary sources have his DoB as 1624 rather than the 1615 mentioned in an earlier version of this profile. His mother was born in 1600 according to her gravestone,

<Catherine (Musgrave) Graham in "Find A Grave Index," database, FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q2WB-4736 : 6 August 2020), Catharine Musgrave Graham, ; Burial, Wath, Harrogate Borough, North Yorkshire, England, St. Mary's Churchyard; citing record ID 168779138, Find a Grave, http://www.findagrave.com. (Accessed December 27 2020)>, and although not impossible, 1624 seems to fit the family facts better than 1615.
