Franklin was born in 1839. He is the son of Joseph Granger and Myra Carpenter.

Enlisted in Company F of the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on 1862-Aug-7 as Private at age 22. He is noted in the table of Missing or Absent without Leave. [1]
