Peter was born about 1810. His father was William Grant, and his mother was the daughter of Alexander Fraser (Ogg) of the Forks of the Middle River.[1] William died about 1810, leaving two children (one of which was Peter) and a pregnant wife (to be named William). About 1820 his widow married the Elder John Cameron.[1]
On 18 March 1806, William Grant purchased 100 acres on the East Side of the East River from Thomas Forbes.[2] This same piece of land was sold on 4 January 1835 by Peter Grant (and Mary his wife), William Grant, and John Cameron (and Mary his wife), all of the Middle River.[3]
Peter Grant of Toney River made his will 26 December 1878. He bequeathed 116 acres at Toney River to his grandson Peter Lyman, gave cash amounts to his daughters Margaret, Ann, Jessie, Catherine, Christy, and Martha, and left the rest of his property to his son William, whom he made executor.[4]
Peter died 15 January 1879, probably at Toney River, and is buried at Seafoam Cemetery. The inscription on the gravestone reads:[5]
