Richard was born in 1782 in Kingston, Jamaica. He was the son of Richard Grant, proctor and Ann Coventry.[1]
He entered the Royal Navy in 1798, was promoted to Lieutenant in 1805 and Commander in 1818. He was flag-captain (Number 2) on a number of commands behind other men before resigning in 1846.
In July the same year he married widow Lydia (Hobson) Lambert at St George Hanover Square, London. They did not have children.
He was knighted in 1820.
He passed away in 1859. He named his widow as sole beneficiary.[2]
