Thomas Grant was born on 22 May 1757*, in Halifax, Virginia. (A previous version of this page had a birth date of 21 Jun 1756.) [1] to Daniel Grant and Elizabeth Tate. [*Note - the 22 May 1757 birth date was calculated from subtracting 71 years 6 months 6 days from 28 Nov 1828.]
Thomas Grant married Frances "Fanny" Owen in Granville, North Carolina, on June 6, 1781, [2] when he was 24 years old. His wife Frances "Fanny" passed away on September 15, 1812, in Wilkes, Georgia, at the age of 60. They had been married 31 years.
He then married Martha H Waddy on 2 Mar 1814. [3]
Thomas Grant died on 28 Nov 1828*, in Monticello, Georgia. [1] when he was 71 years old. According to the ingraved writing on the top of his tombstone. He died at 71 yrs. 6 Mo. 6 days. [*Note - The FindAGrave memorial for Thomas Grant has an incorrect death date of 27 Nov 1827. Thomas Grant wrote his will on 24 Nov 1828. Two obituaries give his death date as 28 Nov 1828.]

“Nancy (now Ragan), Augustine, Thomas and Eliza Jane, children of my son William Grant decd.” - $5,000 to be equally divided between them.
Various charities - $2,700 plus “three shares in the name of my farther [sic] Daniel Grant decd. in the Planters Bank of Savannah”.
“The Negroes and their increase left by my Farther [sic] Daniel Grant decd to be free according to his will & an act of the Legislature of Georgia passed February 1896 [sic] to be found in Watkins digest”...
“my wife Martha (W? U? H?) Grant and my daughter Lucy Grant”
The Southern Recorder, Milledgeville, GA, 6 Dec 1828: Died - “At Monticello on 28th ult., Thomas Grant, native of Virginia, age 72 years. Had lived in Georgia 40 years. Had been a member of the Methodist Church 42 years and attended the first love-feast ever held in Georgia. His home was the preachers’ home. It is said he left by his will $8,000 to different benevolent institutions.”[5]
