Alexander Grant, born in 1734, was the son of Isobel Grant and Patrick Grant, Laird of Glenmoriston. He was a Royal Navy officer, businessman, and politician. He served as a member of both the Legislative Council and the Executive Council of Upper Canada, and was for a short time, Administrator of Upper Canada, 1805-1806.

Grant married Thérèse Barthe (1758-1810) of Grosse Pointe, near Detroit, in 1774. They had eleven daughters and a son. He died in 1813 in Detroit and was buried on the other side of the Detroit River in Sandwich, now Windsor, Ontario.
