James, son of James Daniel Grant from Spartanburg and his wife Sallie (Grice, or Grist), from Georgia, was born in Pickens District, South Carolina in 1824. He married Rebecca Malinda Neal. They went west, to Arkansas, where James worked as a blacksmith, and their first three children were born.[1] It's not known where he died, shortly afterwards, but he is buried at Mount Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery in Sunset (Pickens County), South Carolina.[2]
