Private Joshua Grant served with 7th Massachusetts Regiment (1777), Continental Army during the American Revolution.
1763 Joshua was born to Robert and Anna Grant at Medway and christened at Holliston, Middlesex, Massachusetts.
1777-78 In the American Revolution, Joshua served as a private in Captain Moses Adam’s Company, Colonel Brook’s Regiment of guards. He was reported as a deserter 03 Nov 1777, but apparently returned and served at Cambridge until 03 Apr 1778. He may also have served in other units after that time and until the end of the war.
1785 Joshua married Eunice Hayward, daughter of Daniel and Ellen Hayward, on July 14, 1785, at Milford, Massachusetts.[1]
1791 Joshua and his brother Nevinson had moved to Stratton, Windham County, Vermont. They had bought land in the southern part of the town, including a large amount of land in what was called Stratton Gore.
1795 Joshua and Eunice returned to live in Massachusetts. Joshua's mother, Anna who was re-married to Samuel Pike, and Joshua's half-brothers, William and Jotham Pike, moved to Stratton and built a cabin on land owned by Joshua.
1808 Joshua's wife, Eunice, passed away in July at Montague, Massachusetts, leaving him with 3 young children.
1809 Joshua married Elizabeth Mitchell of Greenfield, Massachusetts.
1817 Joshua took the Freeman's oath in Stratton; he and his wife Elizabeth, known as "Betsy" lived in Stratton the remainder of their years.
1824 Joshua died; Betsy lived alone in Stratton for many years, residing under the care of others into the 1840s.
