Arthur Douglas Grant, a farmer, was born on the 26th of September, 1874, at Tokomairiro, Otago, New Zealand[citation needed], the 5th of 8 children of William Grant and Ellen Buchanan.[1][2]

On leaving school [he] worked for his father at "Clairinch" and "Gladfield".
[1]

At 32, on the 19th of September, 1907, he married Margaret Buchanan Scott at "Gladfield", North Taieri, Otago, New Zealand.[3] and they had 5 children.[1]

From the time of his marriage to Margaret Scott in 1907 until his death in 1949 he resided at "Gladfield," which during that period had become his property.
[1][4]
[He] was a staunch member of the West Taieri Presbyterian Church, being elected a deacon in 1908, and an elder a few years later. For many years he was Session Clerk until failing health forced him to resign. The "Clairinch" buggy so well known in his parents' time continued in use to take the "Gladfield" family the long drive to church, come hail or snow, until a Model T. Ford was acquired. He took a deep interest in local affairs, especially the Farmers' Union, being President of the West Taieri Branch for a number of years.
[1]

At 74 years of age, a resident at "Gladfield", Wylies Crossing, he died on the 17th of May, 1949, his death registered at East Taieri, Otago, New Zealand[5] and was buried in the West Taieri Cemetery, Taieri Plain, Greater Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand.[6][7]
