His second wife was Mary Elizabeth Davis on 27 Sep 1865 in Illinois, daughter of William Davis and Harriett Van Hook. She was born 08 Mar 1835 in Harrison County Kentucky, and died 28 Mar 1896 in Moultrie County, Illinois.

A SHORT HISTORY OF THOMAS GRAVEN

"The founder of the Graven Family in Illinois, he was of a family of two children, one sister dying in her young years. Thomas was born near Mt. Washington. Kentucky. His father died of Colery when he was only a child his mother braught him up and it is the understanding of the writer that an Uncle gave him iniployment in his younger days and his playmates were a negro boy slave of his Uncle who's duty was to see that no harm came to Massv Tom. Thomas Graven was born Feb 15th 1832 near Mt. Washington. Ky. Was Married to Mary Girkin of near Old Deposit now known as South Park. Ky. on Mch 3rd 1853 to this union were Born six children. They Moved Sullivan. Ill. arriving at her Brothers who lived then at about where the tile yard now stands South East of Sullivan arriving there in Mch - 1855. They came through in a wagon and the roads were so bad they had to leave there wagen in Charleston Ill. and finish there trip a horse back and going back in a few days with an extry team for in them days they were no tile and the prairies were mostly covered with water and Prairie grass. They went to house Keeping on what is now nown as the Old Seright Farm North west of Sullivan. Mary Graven Died April 19th 1864 and was berried at Sullivan Ill. Age 33 y 5 M 29 d. Thomas Graven was again married to Mary Elizabeth Davis Sept. 27th 1865 to this Union were Born four children. Mary E. Davis was Born March the Eight - 1835 in Harrisen County. Ky. caine to Illinois with here parrents when but Nine years of age or the Fall of 1844 and settled South West of Coles there not being any Mattoon at the time and No Railroads there nearest market was Terehaut md. Deer and Wild Turkey were plentyful. Died Mch. 28th 1896. Age 61 years 20 days. Buried at Sullivan. Ill. Thomas Graven died Jan. 15th, 1879. Age 46 years Eleven months. (Written by son - Wallace Graven) Thomas Graven bought 40 acres (where old house stood - east side of road) Nov. 21. 1863 for 0 from Win. A. Hancock. 40 acres west side of road where Elmer Graven now lives from I.C.R.R. Construction Apr. 30. 1870 for 0. North 40 on east side of road from Levi Seass Dec. 19, 1876 for 00. On July 25th 1920 the Graven family met at the home farm of J. W. Graven for a fish fry in honor of Wilt, Girkin & wife of Battles Kentucky a brother of Mary Graven the first of Thomas Graven there was 50 of of the Graven family present with plenty of Fish and a general good time was had. Win. Girkin suggested that the Graven family have a reunion each year on Motion by J. W. Graven Seconded by W W. Graven that we meet on the Fourth Saturday in July each year and that the meeting for the year of 1921 be at the Home place of Thomas Graven the founder of the Graven family in Illinois."
