Biography

Church of Ireland Clergy

He was the son of Reverend James Graves and Jane Ryder.

He was a cleric in the Church of Ireland, rising to the rank of Dean of Ardagh. His father was a clergyman.
As a theology academic, he became a senior fellow at Trinity College, Dublin. He entered Trinity College Dublin on 5 June 1780, aged 16. Sch 1782, B.A. 1784, Fellow 1786, M.A. 1787, B.D. 1794, D.D. 1799, Donellan Lecturer 1797 and 1801, Archbishop King's Lecturer 1799 and 1805, Professor of Laws 1809, Regius Professor of Greek 1810, Regius Professor of Divinity 1819. There is a stained-glass window in Trinity College, Dublin in his memory.
He married Eliza May Drought, the daughter of Rev. Dr. James Drought, his colleague. He died on 31 March 1829 at age 65.
