James Gray was born to James Gray and Honora Kirwan. Moved to America with his mother, 3 brothers, uncle and cousin aboard the SS Blanche, 28 November 1853. Their ship was held in quarantine at Ft. Jackson for several days because of a cholera epidemic in the area. Another boat took them upriver to the new home near Mason, Warren County, Ohio. James died from cholera during this part of the trip. His body was buried some where along the way near the Mississippi or Ohio River.
