Mary E. Blackburn was born in 1854 in Ohio, her father, George William Blackburn (1829-1861) and her mother, Delilah Brady (1827-1870). She lost her father when she was only 7 years old. She married John B. Gray on September 11, 1872 in Washington, Ohio.
