That Rhoda, daughter of Nathan Goodrich marred "a Gray" is from an 1889 genealogy of the Goodrich family.[1]
Research Notes
Exclusions
In attempting to find the first name of Rhoda's Gray husband, we find one Elnathan Gray with wife Rhoda Goodrich as parents of Almeda Faulkner in Almeda's 1893 marriage to Albe West in Parishville, St. Lawrence, New York, United States.[2]. But this appears to be on the late side for this couple, as their children would have been born in the early 1800s. That said, it's clearly not a first marriage for Almeda.
Further research indicates that Almeda was previously married to Charles Faulkner; they lived in Parishville, St Lawrence, New York. The 1880 census indicates that Almeda was born about 1825 in New York, of a New Hampshire-born father and Vermont-born mother.[3] After Charles Faulkner died in 1889, Almeda appears to have married (in 1893) the widow of her husband's sister. (Albe West married Louisa Faulkner who had died in 1891.) Neither Almeda's now Albe's gravestone mentions their late-in-life spouses. They are all buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Parishville.
Elnathan Gray, 74, b NY and wife Rhoda, 53, b NY are found in the 1870 in Hampden, Gauega, Ohio in 1870. Rhoda's age calculates back to 1817, excluding this couple from being the Rhoda Goodrich, born 1789 and her Gray husband mentioned in the Goodrich genealogy.
