Having travelled to England to be closer to her decorated Australian army Great War veteran, Major Edward James "Ted" Milford DSO, they married on 13th November 1919 in the Holy Trinity Church of England, East Finchley, Middlesex. They remained in England whilst Edwards completed various military courses and postings. While still in England in July 1925 their only child, John Edward Gibbon Milford was born.
Winnie's little family eventually made their way to Victoria when Edward returned to take up a new military position, between 1926 and 1929. John, whilst born in England, was the son of Australian parents, so held Australian citizenship. They were back in England in 1930-31 as Ted attended Staff College, Camberley. Wynne's distress levels would have climbed quite high once more during the Second World War, during which Ted, as a Major General, commanded the 5th Division in Queensland and Papua, and later the 7th Division at Borneo. How proud she would have been to see him receive appointment to both Companion of the Order of the Bath and Companion of the Order of the British Empire in recognition of his military leadership.
Wynne passed away, aged 74 years, in 1969 on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. Ted passed away three years later. John, and grandson, Michael, also built military careers.
