Biography

Claude E. Gray, 44 [42], of Central Street, Fields Landing, was fatally injured in an automobile accident in Colorado on July 18th. He had lived in this area for the past nine years, and was employed by the Harvey Harper Ford Company as a mechanic.

He is survived by wife, Ida Mae, Fields Landing; a son, Duane, Fields Landing; mother, Mrs. Francis Gray, Marshall, Arkansas; one brother, Harvey Gray, Fields Landing; four sisters, Mrs. Ben Carter, St. Joe, Arkansas; Mrs. Lorene Schneider, Eureka; Mrs. Frank Perra, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Pauline Street, Marshall, Oklahoma. FIELDS LANDING MEN KILLED IN COLORADO CRASH

A Colorado traffic accident claimed the lives of two Fields Landing residents and resulted in injuries to another early Monday morning.

Dead were Claude E. Gray, 44 [42]; his uncle, Robert Lee Taylor, 68, both of Fields Landing, and Claude's father, Bolen Gray, 76, of Marshall Arkansas.

Injured in the same crash were Duane Gray, 12, Claude Gray's son, and Mrs. Bolen Gray, 73, his mother.

According to reports of the Colorado State Patrol, the car, believed to have been driven by Claude Gray, went out of control on a curve. It skidded 400 feet, and overturned three times as it plunged 50 feet down a mountainside.

Gray's wife, Ida May, shocked upon hearing the news, was taken to Eureka General Hospital.

The accident occurred 13 miles east of Montrose, Colorado, on U.S. Highway 50. Mrs. Bolen Gray and Duane are hospitalized there.

Gray had gone to Arkansas with his son and uncle to bring his parents here on a visit. They were on the return trip when the accident occurred.

Gray who had lived in Fields Landing for 10 years, was employed by Harvey M. Harper's Ford company. He is survived by his wife, son and mother.

Robert Lee Taylor has lived in Fields Landing since his retirement from the California Electric Power Company of Riverside 5 years ago. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie; his son, Glenn S. Taylor of Bishop; a sister, Mrs. Ruby Toles of San Bernardino; and 3 grandchildren.
