OBITUARY' DEATH OF MRS. WALKER. It is with feelings of deep and sincere regret that we announce the death of Mrs Walker, wife of Mr Alderman John Walker, of Jamberoo, which occurred on Saturday morning last.
The deceased lady had been, very ill for some days previous to her death with a severe attack of influenza, pneumonia supervening, and this was the immediate cause of the ending of a life whose loss to her bereaved husband and family of nine children will be irreparable. Mrs Walker was cut off in the prime of womanhood, she being 46 years of age at a time when her loss will be most severely felt in her own family circle. Of her nine children, the youngest is but a few weeks old, and the eldest about 19 years of age. On every, hand Mr Walker is the recipient of expressions of deep sympathy (in which we join) at this great blow that has befallen him.
Mrs Walker was a native of this district - a daughter of the late Mr. Henry Gray, of Fountaindale and resided here all her life. She was of a most kindly and hospitable disposition, a good wife and a pattern mother. It is a trial of this nature, which can only occur once in a lifetime that keenly tests the fortitude of a Christian family; but the willing sympathy and help extended by the very large circle of relatives and friends of this bereaved household will go a long way towards helping them to bear the affliction though it is indeed sad to know that the daily presence and motherly care of a good woman is lost to them forever.
Throughout her illness, Mrs Walker was attended with the utmost skill and care by Dr. R. Beath, and by Dr. H. Terrey also towards the end, who did all in their power to save her life, but without avail. The remains of the deceased lady were interred at the new cemetery at Jamberoo on Sunday afternoon last, and the large concourse of people from all parts of the district who followed the hearse to the grave bore testimony, if indeed any were wanting, to the respect felt for the dead and the great sympathy that is shown with the sorrowing husband and family. Many floral wreaths and tributes also were an evidence of this fact. Prior to the burial, a funeral service was conducted in the Church of England by the Rev. B. Stephens. The burial service of the same Church was conducted at the grave-side by the Rev. Mr. Stephens, in an impressive manner.
