ABIGAIL GRAY, b. at Andover, 13 Aug 1714[1] daughter of Edward Gray and Sarah Osgood;[2] d. at Andover, 16 Oct 1778;[3][4] m. 11 Dec 1735,[5] THOMAS WARDWELL, b. at Andover, 3 May 1709 son of William and Dorothy (Wright) Wardwell;[6] Thomas d. at Andover, 29 Feb 1776.[7]
Abigail and Thomas resided in Andover, their house reported as being near the center of town.[8] Thomas was a yeoman.
In his will written 24 February 1776 (probate 6 May 1776), Thomas Wardwell expresses his will that son Daniel will procure and provide for dearly beloved wife Abigail a convenient room in the dwelling house and all her necessities and comforts of life including a horse and horseman to carry her to meetings and elsewhere. These provisions are in lieu of the dower which she will receive if Daniel or his heirs neglect this duty. Oldest and well-beloved son Solomon receives twelve shillings which completes his portion and sons Jeremiah and Ezekiel receive similar bequests. Son Daniel receives all the real and personal estate and is also named executor. Real estate was valued at £362 pounds including the dwelling house with 25 acres and an additional 40 acres.[9]
Abigail and Thomas were parents of eleven children born at Andover.
