Biography

Marion was born in 1827 in Nova Scotia, the daughter of Hugh Gray and Elizabeth Black, who immigrated to Canada from Scotland. Her siblings were:

Mary Hebron Gray 1817-1899 Scotland

Janet Drew Gray 1819- Scotland

Elisabeth Gray 1826- Nova Scotia

Emily Sawyer Gray 1830-1913 Nova Scotia

Susanna Ruthford Gray 1833- Nova Scotia

Marion married Alexander Lithgow in 1851 in Nova Scotia, they had at least 6 children.^[1] They had at least 11 children:

At the time of the 1871 Canada Census, James R, Marion C, William, John T, Helen, Annie, James C, and Marion E. Lithgow were listed as living in Halifax, Nova Scotia, along with a servant^[2].

At the time of the 1881 Canada Census, James, Marion (mistranscribed as "Mary"), John, Hellen, Annie, and James Lithgow were listed as living in Halifax, Nova Scotia^[3].

At the time of the 1891 Canada Census, James, Marion, William, John, Annie, and James Lithgow were listed as living in Halifax^[4].

Marion died in Halifax on October 10, 1891^[5], and was buried in Camp Hill Cemetery, Halifax^[6].
