Biography

In 1850, James M. (30) was farming in Clay County, Kentucky[1] along with his wife Eliza (21) and their children:

  2. Susan (5) - born 1845
  3. James M. (3) - born 1842
  4. Kezziah - a daughter born in 1850

All of the children were born in Kentucky. Also listed on the Census for Clay County in house number 93 were Gade Gray (62) and his wife Kezziah (54). Gade was farming.

By the 1860 US Census,[2] the family has added 3 more children:

  3. Gid J. G. (2) - born 1858 in Indiana

The family is now living in Nineveh Township, Indiana. James is still farming.

The 1880 US Census[3] finds James (58) a widow living in the household of his son James. They are living in Stafford Township, Indiana and farming. James Monroe lists his occupation as cooper. Also in the home are Sarah, James wife, and Mary (10) his stepdaughter, as well as Gibson (22), Mary (20), and Martha (17).
