Timothy Gray was born on April 17, 1831 in Sunderland, Durham, England, United Kingdom, son of Lawrence Gray (1775–1854) and Jane Rippon (1791–1857).[1]
In 1841 Timothy was residing with his parents and siblings in North Moor Street, Sunderland.[2]
A decade later and Timothy was still living with his parents and siblings in Sunderland, although being attracted to life in the Colonies.[3]
Timothy immigrated to New Zealand in about 1852, attracted by the news of the gold rush and the riches to be found in that country.
Timothy (39) married Mary McLeod (21) (born in 1848 in Inverness-shire, Scotland, United Kingdom) on October 7, 1870 in Knox Presbyterian Church, Dunedin, New Zealand. Their children were:
