John Archibald Frederick Gray was born on 10 November 1858. He was the son of Owen Gray and Augusta Spicer.
He travelled to England with his family circa 1864.
UK Census Date 1871: Recorded in the household of his grandmother Mary Spicer in Fulham, London, Middlesex, England. Also in the household was his aunt Mary Spicer, one servant, his parents and five siblings. He was aged 12.
His grandmother passed away in 1871 and the family returned to New Zealand.
He married Mary Clark Niccol (daughter of Henry Niccol) on 5 February 1890.[1]
They had one son; Wynne Peyton Gray (b. 15 Dec 1890, d. 10 Dec 1971).
He passed away on 6 July 1916 at age 57.[2]
