Biography

abt 1826 Mary was born in 1826, the daughter of Joseph Grayson and Sarah Guest. [1] She was baptised on the 25 April 1827 in Darfield, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.[2]

At the time of the England and Wales Census, 1841, the Grayson family were living in Garlick Square, Darfield, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom. The family members present were:

Joseph Grayson, M, age 45, born in Yorkshire; Sarah Grayson, F, age 45, born in Yorkshire; William Grayson, M, age 17, born in Yorkshire; Mary Grayson, Sex Female, Age 15, born in Yorkshire; John Grayson, M, age 12, born in Yorkshire.[3]

Article: SUDDEN DEATH. An inquest was held at Footscray on Thursday, by Mr. Candler, the district coroner, on the body of Mary Firth, aged 56 years, who expired suddenly at her residence on the morning of the preceding day. It transpired that the deceased had been in delicate health for some time previously to her death, but had not been attended by any medical man. A post mortem examination was made by Dr. Morton, who certified that death had resulted from disease of the valves of the heart, and the jury returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence.[8]

Memorial Notice: FIRTH.— In affectionate remembrance of our dear mother, Mary Firth, late of Leeds Cottage, Nicholson-street, Footscray, who died 20th September, 1882. Farewell, our mother dear, farewell ; We soon shall rise to thee. And when we meet no tongue can tall How great our joys will be.[9]

She is buried in the Footscray General Cemetery, Footscray, Victoria, Australia in Plot Wesleyan A, Grave 21. Interment date listed is the death date.[10]
