Biography

Susannah Grayson was born in 1740, in Mongolia county, Virginia, a daughter of Ambrose Grayson and Alice Sharp. Susannah married Levi Carter, born circa 1736, a veteran of the American Revolutionary War and Daughters of the American Revolutionary War Ancestor #A020020. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of Susannah and Levi's sons, Elijah Carter, who married Susanna Cassell; Caleb Carter, who married Phebe Williams; and Jesse Carter, who married Susannah Harmon. [1]

Levi Carter wrote his Will on April 22, 1811, in Greene county, Tennessee. Levi names his wife, Susannah and two sons, Joseph and Elijah. [2] Susannah (Grayson) Carter died October 22, 1816, in Greene county, Tennessee and is buried in the churchyard of the New Carters Station United Methodist Church, located across the road from the church on Albany Road, in Greene county, Tennessee. [3] Levi is buried with her. [4]
