Biography

Samuel was born in Massachusetts in January 1668, son of Samuel Green and Mary Cook. He died bef the probate of his Will on April 24, 1758; in a bond signed by him and his five brothers, Nov.13, 1724, as executors of their father's Will, he is called "weaver." His Will is dated June 6, 1753; proved April 24, 1758; recorded Midd. Prob. 45:393. He mentions son Samuel, who is executor; daus. Mary Wilson and Lydia Howard; grandsons Jacob Wilson, Samuel Wilson, Joseph Wilson, and gr. dau. Susanna Wilson. To these grandchildren he gives 2s. 6d. apiece; to his gr. dau. Phebe Pratt he gives 5s.; Witnesses, John Green, Jonas Green, Jonathan Green. He married Mary WHEELER on 4 May 1694. Mary (died 24 Jan 1729/30). They had following children: Mary, Samuel, Lydia (b.25 Jun 1705), Phebe GREENE (b.17 Sep 1707), Sarah. [1]

The Third Day of Janauary Anno: Domi: one thousand seven hundred and Twenty one Twenty Two. And in the Eight year of the Reighn of our Soveraign Prince George King of great britain &c. I Samuel Green Sener of Malden in the County of middlesex in his majesties province of ye Massachusetts bay in new England. being under decays of body but of perfect mind and mmmory thanks be given to god Calling unto minde the mortality of my body I Do make and ordain this my Last will and Testement That is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of god that gave it. and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in Decent manner at the Diseretion of my Executors hereafter named. And as Touching Such worldy Estate wherewith it hath pleased god to bless me with in this life I give and Demise and Dispose of the same in the following manner and form

Imprimis. That all my just Debts funeral Charges and Nessecary Expences be paid by Executors hereafter named. Item I give and bequeath to Susanna my Dearly beloved wife The full and just sum of sixty pound of passable money All also I give to my said wife Two pair of sheets of Cotten and linnin and my mind and will is that all those moveable things which my said wife brougth with her when she came shall return again from whene they came.

Item my will is and I give to my six sons Namely. Samuell Green Thomas Green William Green Jonathan Green David Green and Isaac Green whom I Constitute ordain and make sole Executors of this my Last will and Testament All my Estate both reall and personal house hold Goods money and Stock To be for them or their heirs And to be possed and Enjoyed by them in Equal[y] parts and proportions Also Allowing to my Eldest son Samuel Green in all as much as any Two of the rest of my sons. Item I give unto my three Daughters namely Mary Martha and Elizabeth five shilings unto Each of them and the reason why I give my Daughters no more is because they have had their proportions already and also my will is that all the Debts and leagiscys afore mentioned shall be paid by my six Executors afore mentioned Samuel to pay as much as Thomas and Thomas as much as Samuel and William as much as Thomas and Jonathan as much as William and David as much as Jonathan and Isaac as much as David. And I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disanul all and Every other former wills and Testements by me me Ratifying and Confirming this and no other so be my last will and Testement in witnes where of I have here unto set my hand and seal the day and year above writen

In the Name of God Amen the Sixth Day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty three I Samuel Green of the town of Malden in the County of Middlesex in his Majesties Province of the Massachusetts Bay in New England Wever, being in helth of body and of sound and perfect mind and memory Thanks be given unto God therefor, Calling to mind the Mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to Die, do make and ordain this my last will and Testement (that is to say) first and principaly I Commend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God, hopeing through the merits Death and passion of my Saviour Jesus Christ to have full and free pardon and forgiveness of all my Sins and to Inherit Everlasting Life and my body I Recomend to the Earth to be buried in Deacent Christian burial at the Decretion of my Executor hereafter named nothing Doubting but at the General Resurection I shall Receive the same again by the Mighty power of God, and as touching Such worly Estate wherewith it hath please almighty god to bestow upon me; and to bless me with in this Life, I Give Demise and Dispose of the same in the following Manner and form that is to say

First I will that all my Just Debts and Funeral Charges shall be payed and Discharged in Conveniant Time after my Decease by Executor hereafter named.

Item I give and Bequeath to my will beloved Son Samuel Green (whom I Likewise Constitute make and Ordain my only Sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testement) my whole Estate both Real and Personal of all Sorts whatsoever that I die siezed and possesed of both in possesion and Revertion, by him my said Son Samuel Green freely to be possesed and Injoyed and to be at his own Dispose forever and Ever.

Item I Give and Bequeath to my well beloved Daughter Mary Wilson the sum of Ten Shillings of Lawfull Money to be paid to her by my Executor within Two years next after my Decease.

Item I Give and bequeath to my Well beloved Daughter Lydia Howard the sum of Ten Shillings of Lawfull Money to be paid to her by my Executor within Two Years next my Decease and the Reason therein give my said Daughters no more is because I have Given them so much already

Item I Give and bequeath to my well beloved Grandon Jacob Wilson the Sum of two shillings and six pence of Lawfull Money to be paid to him by my Executor within two Years next after my Decease.

Item I Give and bequeath to my Will beloved Grandson Samuel Wilson the Sum of two Shillings and six pence of Lawfull Money to be paid to him by my Executor within two Years next after my Decease.

Item I Given and bequeath to my well beloved Grandson Joseph Wilson the sum of two Shillings and Six pence of Lawfull Money to be paid to him by my Executor within Two years next after my Decease.

Item I Give and bequeath to my Well beloved Granddaughter Susannah Wilson the sum of Two Shillings and Six pence of Lawfull Money to be paid to her by my Executor within two years next after my Decease. And the Reason I herein Give my said GrandChildren on more is because I Gave their mother so much.

Item I Give and bequeath to my well beloved Granddaughter Phebe Prat the sum of five Shillings of Lawfull Money to be paid to her by my Executor within two years next after my Decease. And the reason therein Give my said Grandaughter Phebe Prat no more is because I Gave her mother so much.

SS: To all People to whom these Presents shall come, Samuel Danforth Esq. Judge of the Probate of Wills, &c in the County of Middlesex within the Province of the Massachusetts Bay, in the New Engalnd, Sendeth Greeting. Know ye, That on the twenty fourth Day of April Anno Domini 1758 the Instrument herein to annexed (purporting the last Will and Testament of Samuel Green last of Malden in said County Weaver deceased) was presented for Probate by Samuel Green the Executor therein named; then present the three Witnesses thereto Subscribed, who made Oath, that they saw the said Testator Sign, Seal, and heard him declare the said Instrument to be his last Will and Testament, and that they subscribed their Names together as witnesses to the Execution thereof in the said Testator's Presence; and that he was then (to the best of their Judgment) of sound and disposing Mind: I do Prove, Approve and Allow of the said Instrument as the last Will and Testament of the before named deceased, and do commit the administration thereof in all Matters the same concerning, and of his Estate whereof he died seized and possessed in said County, unto the before name Executor well and faithfully to execute the said Will, and to administer the Estate of the said deceased according thereto who accepted of his said Trust, and gave Bond for the faithfull Discharge of the same and he shall render an account (upon oath) of his Proceedings: when thereunto lawfully required. In Testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal of Office, the Day and Year above written.
