Biography
Betty LeVon Melton, 80 HARTFORD CITY – Betty LeVon Melton, 80, passed away at 2:14 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at IU Health Blackford Community Hospital. She was born in Hartford City on April 30, 1936 to Fred Martin Green and Flossie Loree (McNees) Green. Both parents preceded her in death. Betty graduated from Hartford City High School in 1954, where she was the Valedictorian. She attended Indiana State University for two years. She married Vernon “Sonny” Leon Melton on December 11, 1955 in Muncie. She retired from Robert Nugent & Associates, where she had been a secretary. Betty was a member of Frist Presbyterian Church in Hartford City and AMVETS Auxiliary. Betty will be sadly missed by her husband, Vernon “Sonny” L. Melton of Hartford City; son, William “Bill” M. (wife, Rochelle) Melton of Alabama; daughter, Lisa (husband, Chris) Hamilton of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Katie, Alyssa, Hunter, Tori, Justin and Eric; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She is also preceded in death by her son, Bruce Marvin Melton, sisters, Annie Loree Smith, Lydia May Baker, Martha Viola Baker, Evelyn Blanch Elliott, Esther Lucille Smith, brothers, Paul Edward Green, Norman Herschel Green, William Lee Green, John Green, Donald Green, Howard Levi Green and Fred R. Green. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2016 at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St. Hartford City, IN with Rev. Susan Finley officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory, Muncie, IN. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2016 and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2016 at Keplinger Funeral Home.
