There is some doubt about the history, and indeed the correct surname of this person, the first wife of William John Hartley [Hartley-56]. Some sources give her LNAB as Green, others as Cawood. There does not seem to be any suitable candidate among the Cawoods. It seems to be the case that William Hartley married this Sarah in England around 1813. He is listed as being a member of Calton's party on the 'Albury' when he is 24 with his wife Sarah Green who is 25. How reliable is this listing of Calton's Party. There is a mass of detail in the report, which, of course, is not sufficient to guarantee its accuracy.

LNAB changed to Green.

Further investigation could be made into the details of the first wedding of William Hartley in England. A possible candidate is:: William Hartley married Sarah Hartley in Rochdale, Lancashire in 1813. This might accord with a conjecture made by Mike Wright on rootsweb, that William Hartley may have married a Sarah Green, who was the daughter of Sarah (b. Field) Green [Field-120], whose first husband was Robert Green, and second husband was Thomas Hartley. [Hartley-52] It is possible that the young Sarah Green (who would have been 17 years old in 1812) may have been adopted by Thomas Hartley when he married her mother in 1812.
