It is believed that after selling his inherited Mecklenburg land, that John and Elizabeth removed to Rowan, North Carolina with John's brothers Stephen and Frederick. Researcher Troy Sims says that one of the records states “upon moving” on the deeds. (This language is not found in the deed above.)

On 5 Feb 1780, John Green entered 100 acres on Swearing Creek, Rowan Co., North Carolina.[9]

(These records are important to show that John Green and Patrick Coil purchased land on Swearing Creek. John's son Gardner Green married Margaret Coil likely d/o John and Mary Coil that died Rocky River, Pendleton SC)

Son Gardner's land was a bit east of father John Green’s on the Yadkin River. Their land purchases are only 2 days apart:

7 Feb 1780 : Gardner Green enters 150 acres of land in Rowan County on a branch of Muddy Creek joining an old survey & the new survey of the Moravian lands & the county line above an old road including his improvements - Feb 7th, 1780. Three forks of the Yadkin River[10]

Research Notes

John Green born 1724 died after 1777 is my [who? direct ancestor] and not to be confused with John Green (died 1768) who married Jane Owen. John Green that died in 1768 was the son of John Green and Abigail Griffin.

Green-19408 and Green-14550 do not represent the same person because: While both claimed to be father of a Gardner Green and husband of an Elizabeth, the generations are off; also not certain that Green-19408 existed.

What supports the Rowan Co., North Carolina death location? The records included on the profile consistently refer to John Green as of Mecklenburg [Virginia] through 1777. Is there some evidence he was later in Rowan Co., NC?

From fellow Green researcher Troy Sims:

The last entries for John Green in Mecklenburg VA are Oct. 1777 when he deeds the last of his father’s estate to Henry Green III.

John also same month and year sells his inheritance of 152 acres to David Perkins. He states “upon moving” on the deeds.

Then I believe John lands in 1780 Rowan NC with brothers Stephen and Frederick.

(These records are important to show that John Green and Patrick Coil purchased land on Swearing Creek. John's son Gardner Green married Margaret Coil likely d/o John and Mary Coil that died Rocky River, Pendleton SC)

I think Gardner’s land is a bit east of father John Green’s on the Yadkin River. Their land purchases are only 2 days apart.

Thanks, Scott (and Troy!). I encourage you to add that data to the narrative.

Six months later, I've incorporated this information into the narrative.

Curious why you and Troy think Gardner was son of John and not son of one of his brothers.

Also seeking more information about son Gardner's marriage to Margaret Coil, but that belongs on his profile, not this.
