Biography

The parentage of Nancy Ann Green is difficult to delineate. My own research is incomplete and lacks sources, other than some information I found from the DAR regarding the courtship of Nancy Ann Green and Thomas McClanahan, this information is based on what I have so far discovered. It has been disputed and/or disproven that she is the daughter of Ann Willis, Duff Green's second wife. I have seen documentation that she is the daughter of Duff Green's first wife Barbour Duff, but there are only two children documented for Barbour Duff, namely, John and Elizabeth. Barbour Duff died about 1755. However, I have DNA links to the offspring of Duff Green and Ann Willis, which could also be somewhat explained by a family connection to the surnames Marshall, Markham, and McClanahan.

Barbour Duff has also been referred to as Barbour/Barber Thomas, or Miss Thomas, and the step-daughter of said William Thomas and sister of John Green, and is also referred to as an orphan, so the connection to William Thomas is uncertain, but the McClanahan Farm in Culpeper may have abutted William Thomas' farm. William Thomas also signed the marriage bond in 1778 for Nancy Ann Green and Thomas McClanahan and had some connection to her brother also, perhaps a close family friend. Thomas McClanahan had at one time conspired to elope with Nancy, since her brother disapproved of this marriage, who did not want her to move to Kentucky.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Nancy by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Nancy:

I've gone over source after source after source and all their wills. I can find no Nancy listed in anywhere. I have found a source listing Duff Green's first wife as Ms. Barbour and I think the confusion with Thomas comes from Slaughter's first accounting listing her as Ms. Thomas. Duff and Ms. Barbour had 2 children, John who served in the Revolution, but did not have any heirs and Elizabeth. For the time being, I am going to remove this profile from Duff Green's children until we have anything substantial that shows she is a child of this Duff Green.
For more information on the father of Barbour Duff 1725-1755, go to the website "Early Colonial Settlers of Southern Maryland and Virginia's Northern Neck Counties". Type in Barbour Duff 1725-1755, who was the first wife of Robert Duff Green. Her family information will appear. Her father's name was William Duff, and his father's name was William Duff. There is much information regarding the offspring of Robert Green and Eleanor Dunn.

Is it possible this line is related to the Green's of Rough Neck, Kentucky and not Danville, Kentucky? They used the same names, lived in the same areas. Unfortunately, their bios have mistakenly been merged and blended together through the years. You might want to do a little research on them. There is tons of info out there on them :)
Thank you for the private message. Please do add sources - especially for information about Duff Green's first wife being named Barbour Duff! (That was a possibility I did not encounter.... just "Miss Thomas or Barbour").

I cannot find anything to support that she's daughter of Duff & Ann. Please post whatever source ancestry might have given. Thanks!

According to a family chart sent me, Duff and his first wife had two children: John and Elizabeth, but Elizabeth is shown as married to her cousin William Green (but the chart has an X penciled in next to this).
