In 1881, Herbert was living with his parents and three siblings and paternal grandmother in Mile End Old Town, Middlesex. ^[2]

In the last quarter of 1901, Herbert married Blanche Wade. The marriage was registered in Stepney, Middlesex. ^[3]

In 1911, Herbert was living with his wife and son in Ilford, Essex. He was a 30-year-old carpenter and joiner. Also in the home was an in-law, by the name of James William Wade. ^[4]

In 1939 he is 69 a Retired Builder, widowed living with a housekeeper at 141 Charter Rd, Willesden, London. ^{[citation needed]}
