Biography

John Green was born in 1610 in England.

He married Mercy Jarvis about 1650. They moved to Stamford by 1654. They lived on the north side of East Street, which is now East Main Street. However, that section of Main Street no longer exists and is now occupied by the Landmark Square building complex and the Stamford Town Center mall.

After seven years of marriage, Mercy died on September 14, 1657 14 Nov. 1657 in Stamford, Connecticut. They had two children together, John and Joseph.

At the age of 48, John married Martha Brett (about 50), the widow of John Finch on 7 Jul 1658 in Stamford. [1] They had three children together and the youngest was Benjamin.

He was Deputy for Stamford, October 1668, May and October 1669, May 1670, May and October 1671, May and October 1673, and October 1674.

Martha died in 1681 in Stamford. At some point, John moved to Bedford. John died in 1693.

I just looked at the Hotten source book. Under the 24 April 1635, the information is as follows:

THEIS vnder-written names are to be transported to the Barbadoes & St Christophers, imbarqued in the Ann & Elizabeth JO: Brookehaven Capten & Mr- having taken the oaths of Allegeance & Supremacie. As also being Conformable to the orders & discipline of the Church of England & no Subsedy Men. whereof they brought test : from the Minister of St Katherins neere ye Tower of London.

Lists John Green, aged 25, in the men and a Suzan Green, aged 20, in the women.

Can someone here link this information to our John Green? This looks like a listing for someone else who landed in Barbados, not New England.

Two replacements for John's existing wives have been connected; hopefully merges will be completed to give him wives Mary Unknown and Martha Unknown

The marriage date in the Biography for John and Martha should be September 1658 as it is above (7th month in 1658 was September) and Martha was more like 40 rather than 50.
