Hercules was born about 1825 most likely on the Roanoke Plantation, Charlotte County, Virginia.

Hercules is # 467 on the Inventory of Slaves in John Randolph's Will [1] His mother, Fanny, is # 466. His siblings listed in the Inventory are:

  • Braxton (# 468)
  • Parthena (# 469)
  • Yarmer (# 470)
  • Joanna (# 471)
  • Louisa (# 472)

In 1850, the family appears to be living in Union, Miami, Ohio.[2]

Slave Owners

  • John Randolph, Roanoke Plantation, Charlotte County, Virginia. (He freed his slaves and asked they be given land in Ohio upon his death).
