Biography

Jeremiah was born in 1844 on Tristan da Cunha. He was baptised 21 Oct 1848 by John Wise, a visiting Chaplain from Ceylon.

It is believed that Jeremiah was one of the 15 islanders drowned on the night of 27 November 1885, when 19 men put out to sea in the island long boat, in an attempt to obtain provisions from the ship 'West Riding', on it's way from Bristol to Sydney. Although the seas were extremely rough, the islanders were in desperate need of provisions, and made the attempt anyway. The boat took water and overturned. 15 of the 19 men on board lost their lives, nearly decimating the adult male population of the island.
