Juliette, the seventh daughter and and youngest child of Horace Green and Harriet Douglas was born in 1860 in Ossining, New York. A 1927 passenger manifest for the ship, American Merchant, sailing from London to New York supports Juliette's birth date and location.[1]
There is some difficulty tracing Juliette and her older sister, Helen, given that they were 6 and 8 years of age, respectively, when their father, Dr. Horace Green died, leaving his young widow, Harriet, 46 years of age with seven surviving children, several of them not of age. For example, the 1870 U.S. Census show that Juliette (10 years) and Helen (12 years) were residing in Pittsford, Rutland, Vermont with their paternal relatives. The census erroneously lists Anna Green, a relative (38 years, born in Vermont, listed as a boarder), as the girls' inferred mother. The three were living with Jonathan Warner (60 years), a farmer, his wife Sarah (54 years) and their four children in Pittsford, Vermont.[2]
In 1880, Juliette R. (20 years) and Helen (22 years) had returned to Ossining, New York and were living with their mother, Harriet (60 years) and brothers Horace D. (33 years) and George W. (26 years). Horace D. Green's occupation was listed as 'Lawyer.'[3]
In 1900, Juliette R. and her sister, Helen, were residing with their mother, Harriet (80 years) in Manhattan, New York.[4]By 1910, Juliette R. Green was a boarder working as a 'Chaperone' on West 67th Street, Manhattan, New York. Juliette's mother had died 7 years prior in 1903. Her sister, Helen, is not listed on this 1910 census.[5]
Juliette Raymond Green died on 8 October 1935 at 75 years of age in Manhattan, New York. She never married.[6]She is buried in the Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, Kings, New York where her Green parents and siblings are buried.[7][8]
