Biography

John Green, son of Duff Green by his first wife, was an officer in the Revolutionary War. He died unmarried.

Born 1752, died 1849, Culpeper County, Virginia, a bachelor. "He was possessed of much wealth.... He served as a Captain in the Revolution, and was badly wounded".[1]

Research Notes

Three John Greens - this son of Duff and Duff's brother and his son - were all officers in Virginia regiments during the Revolution.
  • This John (Duff's son) died unmarried but had survived the war.
  • His cousin, Lt. John Green, also died unmarried, but was killed in a duel at Valley Forge in April 1778 at age 18.[2] He had joined the 6th Virginia as a substitute for his new brother-in-law, Thomas McClanahan, the same month.[3]
  • Duff's brother, Colonel John Green, served with several regiments, including the 10th Virginia: "Lieutenant Green’s father was Col. John Green of the Tenth Virginia...[4][5]
