Joseph was born 25 Dec 1831 in Nova Scotia, Canada.[1][2]

Joseph, 29 living in Portland, was mustered into the Union Army as a Private in Company B, 1st Regiment, Maine Infantry (3 months, 1861) on 3 May 1861 for 3 months. He mustered out 5 Aug 1861 and was honorably discharged.[3] [4][5] The 1st Maine Infantry was organized at Portland and mustered in for 3 months. They were ordered to Washington, D.C. to defend the capitol. They mustered out at Portland on 5 Aug 1861. [6]

Joseph married twice. His first wife was Olive Delvinna Storrs (or Stores); they married in 1912. Olive passed away in 1922 and Joseph married Fanny maiden name unknown.[7]

Joseph was admitted to the United States National Home for Volunteer Soldiers in Sawtelle, California in 1911 for 14 years, and then again in Apr 1926 for 3 months, and finally in Mar 1927.[2]

He passed away 4 Dec 1931 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States and is buried in Los Angeles National Cemetery in Los Angeles.[1][8][7]
