He died on 6 March 1869, cordwainer of Whitton, effects under £600, with his son Walker Green labourer of Whitton and daughter Ann Green, spinster of Whitton executors.[7]
He was buried at St John the Baptist, Whitton, Lincolnshire on 10 March 1869, age 79, abode Whitton.[8]

1848 Rural crime. 'A few evenings ago Mr John Green of Whitton had a quantity of cucumbers stolen. The thieves have not yet been found out.' [9]
