Jeremiah Green's NARA records show he was born 1830 in Watauga Co, NC . He is shown to have enrolled for active duty 17 May 1862, taking the Oath of Allegiance to North Carolina from W W McDowell in Asheville, NC. At this time, records show he was 32 years of age, 5' 7 ½ " tall, and a farmer. Jeremiah was mustered into service as Private into Co E 60th Regiment NC Infantry by Capt J A McDowell at Camp Smith in Aug 1862 for 3 years "or the war". Muster rolls indicate that Jeremiah Green attained the rank of Corporal as of Nov 1863 and was shown to be "absent sick" from Nov 1863 until Mar 1863 when he is listed as "present". From Jun 30 until Dec 1863 he is listed as "sick in hospital" and "sick at home". The muster roll for Jan – Feb 1864 the recorder states Jeremiah Green "Died, I do not know when he died, nor can not find out easily." An invoice receipt dated 29 Dec 1863 shows death of Jeremiah Green at Academy Hospital, Marietta, GA on 6 Nov 1863 and the amount of $11.75 was received by the Quartermaster General as part of his effects [3].
Jeremiah died on the battlefield on 6 Nov 1863 in Marietta, Cobb, Georgia at the age of 32 [4].
He is listed among those Confederate Soldiers buried at Marietta Confederate Cemetery in Cobb County, Georgia [5].
