Margaret (Greenaway) Falconer was born in Scotland.

Margaret Greenaway was born in the parish of Falkirk on 31 December 1837 and was the eldest daughter of Thomas Greenaway and Helen Craig.[1]

Margaret grew up in Falkirk where she was the eldest of six daughters, however there were also three sons. On the 1841 census, Margaret is living with her parents in West Carron.[2] On the 1851 census, Margaret is living in the village of Camelon where her father and brothers are iron moulders.[3] Margaret left home to work as a domestic servant and she gave birth to an illegitimate daughter, Helen Greenaway, on 26 August 1865.

Margaret married George Munro, a widower, in Glasgow on 10 November 1871, however he died four years later.[4]

Margaret then married George Falconer in the parish of Dennistoun on 28 May 1879 and the marriage entry indicates she ran a lodging house.[5] The couple are living at 35 Young St Back Land, Calton, where George was a brewery labourer.[6] On the 1901 census, George and Margaret are living at 63 Soho St, Camlachie, Lanarkshire, where George is working as a night watchman and Margaret is a washerwoman. Margaret was widowed again when George died the following year.[7]

Margaret Greenaway died of a stroke, aged 80 years, on 10 November 1918. The death record reveals she died in the poorhouse, however her usual residence was 71 Soho St.[8]
