Maude was called Susan as a child/young person. She played the piano and was a talented seamstress who was awarded the blue ribbon for the grand champion quilt in the State Fair of Texas in 1962, one year before her death. Maud's husband, William McCoy Boatman, abandoned her and their two daughters, Arlene and Hazel in the early 1930's. The fatherless family struggled to make ends meet. She liked Dr. Pepper. She didn't have a bathroom in her house on Archer in Jacksboro, TX and walked two blocks to use the facilities at a gas station. She was called "BoBo" by her grandchildren and all of their kids.
