Joseph Greene of Shandon and Newtown House, Co Waterford, was born in 22 Sept 1746. He was the son of John Greene and Frances Nicholson. [1]
He joined the military and gained the rank of Captain in the service of the 40th Regiment and he gained the rank of Major in Army.
Joseph travelled to America where he married Hannah Townsend on 7 January 1777 at Saint Georges Church, Hempstead, Nassau, New York[2].
They had about 10 children:

His wife died on 7 May 1797.
He married, secondly, Catherine Foley (daughter of Jeremiah Foley) circa 1802.
They had at least four children:

Joseph George (b. 29 Sep 1806, d. 26 Mar 1877)
Reverend Richard Francis (b. 1807, d. 14 Feb 1839)
He lived at Newtown House, County Waterford, Ireland and he lived at Shandon, Dungaravan, County Waterford, Ireland.
Joseph was awarded land in Canada for his service in America.[3]
He passed away in 1830 at the age of 84 and is buried in the family vault at Kilmacow, County Kilkenny, Ireland.
DIED
In Waterford, at the advanced age of 84, Major Joseph Greene, formerly Surveyor the Port of Waterford. He served in the American war under the late Marquess Cornwallis, who highly esteemed him, and afterwards when Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, gave him the situation of Port Surveyor.
