Albert was born 19 November 1820, in Rhode Island. He was the son of Valentine Greene and Mary Godfrey.[1]
In 1850, Albert is boarding at the Mansion House Hotel. He is 30 years old, single, and a clerk for the railroad. [2] The Mansion House, opened in 1784 under the name of the Golden Ball Inn, stands at the corner of Benefit and South Court Streets in downtown Providence, nearly opposite the state house. Its sign in the old days was adorned by a golden globe in keeping with its name. Here in the Golden Ball Inn were entertained Washington, Monroe and Lafayette, and it seems to have been a famous and richly honored hotel in the old days.[3]
On 19 September 1861, Albert married Catherine (Godfrey) Greene (1823-1901), daughter of Slocum and Sarah Godfrey, in Providence, Rhode Island.[4]
In 1870, the couple is living in East Greenwich, with Catharine's mother the widow Sarah (age 77), and her brother Joshua (age 42).[5]
Albert died at age 53 on 17 March 1873, and has a tombstone in both the Stephen Greene Lot in East Greenwich,[1] and the Godfrey Cemetery in West Warwick.[6]
