Eunice Greene's exact birth date is hard to pin down. The Rhode Island, U.S., State Censuses, 1865-1935 for 1935 has the earliest date: 2 Mar 1860.[1] Her earliest census record has her at Abt. 1862[2] and Abt. 1862 was also the date cited on the 1875 Rhode Island, U.S., State Census.[3] The 1900 U.S. Census gets a bit more specific; March 1963.[4] The latest specific date occurs in the Web: Rhode Island, Historical Cemetery Commission Index, 1647-2008 which cites 2 Mar 1865.[5] What is certain however is that she was the daughter of Cyril Greene and Louisa Kirkland.
With Eunice's marriage to Alonzo C Northup in 1895 she became a stepmother to Alonzo's child Harry E Northrup from Alonzo's previous marriage to Lucinda Jordan.[6] Harry E Northrup's mother Lucinda passed away in 1893. The juxtaposition of Harry's birth date with the date of his mother's death strongly suggests that she may have died from a complication in childbirth.
Eunice passed away 28 May 1945[7] and is buried in the Woodland Cemetery; Coventry, Kent County, Rhode Island.[8]
