Harry was born in 1909.[1]

He is the son of John Greenfield and Mary Fair. (See Family Bible details)
Harry grew up in Whitehead. At this time Whitehead was a popular day trip destination for people from Belfast. The train company who had developed the line to Whitehead and beyond to Larne (sea port) encouraged trippers to make the journey to the thriving resort by setting up attractions such as the Gobbins Path[3]
Other attractions included the sea water Bathing Pool and Rowing Boats for hire. Harry worked for the boat hire company in his teens.
Harry won a Church of Ireland Scholarship to attend the Church run Grammar School in Sligo [4]where he boarded.
