Martha was born in 1836. She was the daughter of William Greenlees and Martha Harvey. [1][2]
After her father died in Scotland her mother brought them to the United States in 1850.[3] [4]
They settled in Harlem Township. [5]
She married George Greenlee in 1857. [6]
They farmed in Harlem. [7]
In 1870 they were farming in Winnebago. [8]
They moved to Belvidere before 1880. [9][10][11]
Martha passed away in 1920. [12]
MARTHA GREENLEE DIED WEDNESDAY Widow Of George Greenlee Succumbs To Infirmities Incident To Advanced Age At 8 O'Clock In The Evening - Funeral Services Will Be Held Saturday Afternoon At 2 O'Clock
Mrs. Martha Greenlee, widow of George Greenlee, passed away at 8 o'clock Wednesday evening at the home of Mr, and Mrs. D. P. Greenlee, 316 Allen street, where her home had been made for several years, from the infirmities of advanced age.
The funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the house. Rev. Dr. George W. Belsey, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will conduct the services. The interment will be in the Belvidere cemetery. Mrs. Greenlee was born in Campbeltown, Argyleshire, Scotland, May 15, 1837.
She came to America with the family in 1850. The family settled in Caledonia township. She was the youngest of a family of seven children, all having preceded her to the great beyond.
Her marriage to Mr. Greenlee, of Argyle, took place, Jan. 15, 1857, and they made their home in Harlem township, Winnebago county. She had been a resident of Belvidere for 43 years, the family moving here in 1877.
Her husband died in April, 1906, and three children, William, Ellen and John in youth. There survive the children, George, of Hagerstown, Md., and Martha (Mrs. David O. Greenlee), and Elizabeth (Mrs. Elmer Watkins) of this city.
Mrs. Greenlee was a member of the First Presbyterian church and a woman of beautiful christian character. Her demise will bring sorrow to a multitude of friends. [13]
