John Greenlees was an early resident of the Scottish Settlement in Argyle, Illinois.

John was born in 1833. He was the son of William Greenlees and Martha Harvey. ^[1]

In 1850 he came to the United States with his mother and siblings. ^{[2] [3]}

They first settled in Argyle, Illinois where they were part of the Scottish Settlement in Argyle, Illinois. ^[4]

He later joined his mother and brothers in Charles City, Iowa. ^[5]

He married Jane Smith in 1864.

They farmed in Charles City. ^{[6] [7] [8]}

John passed away in 1919. ^[9]
