Thomas MacGregor Greer -- who is, confusingly, one of three men of the same name living in Ulster at this time -- was born on April 16, 1869 at Sea Park, Carrickfergus, Co. Antrim, Ireland. He attended Eton and Cambridge University. After his marriage to Dorinda Florence Lowry in 1892, he moved to Tullylagan Manor, near Cookstown, which he leased from Thomas Ussher Greer. He considered the manor house inadequate, and had the basement excavated to add another storey.
Thomas and Dorinda had two daughters. After Thomas served in the Great War (as a Major in the Manchester Regiment) the Greers returned to Sea Park, where he was High Sheriff and Member of Parliament for Carrickfergus.
Mrs. Greer died in 1930 and in 1931 Thomas married Leonie Caroline Handcock of Dublin, returning to Tullylagan Manor. There he served as a Justice of the Peace and Deputy Lieutenant for County Tyrone. He was a generous benefactor to his community and helped to beautify the ancient church of Desertcreat. He died on June 10, 1941.
