Biography

From The Genealogical Line of the Shortess Family, 1725-1943:

[ Thomas Shortess's ] second marriage, March 4, 1833, was with Eleanor Greer, born January 8, 1800, a granddaughter of Colonel Samuel Irvin, who served in the army of the American Revolution. To this union was born one son, Samuel Irvin Shortess. Eleanor Greer Shortess died September 16, 1836, aged 36 years, 8 month and 8 days.

Eleanor Greer is the daughter of Mary Frances Irvine (September 1770-?) and James Greer (1770-1828). Mary is the daughter of Lt. Col. Samuel Augustus Irwin (25 January 1747 - 9 March 1806), who led the 3rd Battalion of the Cumberland County Pennsylvania Militia, and Mary Miller (1744-1819).
