Douglas was born on the 23rd of April 1911. He was the son of Arthur Henry Greer (abt.1869-1966) and Mary Timmins (1885-1961).

He married Joyce Ellen (Hobbins) Greer (1912-) on the 15th of September 1945.

They had one son and three daughters.
