Joel Gragg was born 12 Feb 1822, in Buncombe County, North Carolina. His parents were Benjamin Franklin Gragg (1791–1844) and Nancy Dyer (1802–1869). Joel married Emily Bartlette (1830–1924) 12 April 1851, in Buncombe, North Carolina. Joel Gragg passed away in 1864, during the Civil War, and is buried at the Berea Baptist Church Cemetery, in Asheville, Buncombe County, North Carolina.[1]
